Stamps: Ely, Minnesota Post Office

Stamps: Ely, Minnesota Post Office

Adopted Post Office City or Postal Topic:
Ely, Minnesota Post Office
Briefly describe why you chose this theme to represent the USPS:
This is a mixed media work that uses juxtapositions of photographs of details in the Ely, Minnesota Post Office. In this image, titled, "Stamps", I combined the mural in the post office lobby and the now defunct stamp window. The New Deal mural entitled "Wilderness" was painted in 1941 by Elsa Jemne, an artist from St. Paul, Mn. shortly after the post office was constructed. Many post offices across the country had beautiful murals painted by artists of the WPA. Sadly, many are lost, due to post office remodels or closures.
